This
Monday, 1 December 2014, marks the 53th anniversary of West Papua’s declaration
of independence from the Dutch and the first raising of the West Papuan
‘Morning Star’ flag. Rather than celebrating 53 years of independence, West
Papuans in Nabire area with Romario E. Yatipai, vice chairman of the West Papua
National Parliament already celebrate 53rd unniversary of West Papuans independence day on 1 December
2014. Thousands of West Papuans take to the streets today to engage in peaceful
protests and flag raising ceremonies to commemorate the events today of 1
December 1961 and to call for Indonesia and the international community to
respect our right to self-determination under international law.
At
that time, December 1, 2014, at 07.00 Papuans in Nabire region fear the
